Verdict: A solid easy to use GPS unit. The iCN 550 has an easy to use interface and comes pre-loaded with Australia, Europe and North America maps.

Pros: Unlike rival systems which require a Bluetooth connection via a GPRS-enabled mobile phone to receive traffic data, the great thing about the Navman iCN550 is that you don't require any additional hardware.

Cons: On a four and a half mile journey from Islington to East Finchley on a busy weekday afternoon the Navman unit achieved mixed results.

Verdict: A perfectly good system only spoilt by the roughness of the design. Unless you're an early adopter this is probably one to steer clear of
