      Lexmark C510

      By Ben Camm-Jones

Review summary: We often wonder how manufacturers come up with the print speeds they claim their printers can achieve, as they don't seem to bear much resemblance to the output rate we get out of them in our tests. Imagine our surprise, then, when we found that the ...

Verdict: It's refreshing to see quoted print speeds that are close to reality, and the Lexmark pumps out quality prints. It would be overkill for a single user. For workgroup use a networkable version is available for about £100 more.

      Lexmark X422 MFP 22ppm 128mb

      By Lisa Cekan

Review summary: The $1479 Lexmark X422 offers an ethernet connection and is one of three laser MFPs we tested this month that include an automatic duplexer. In addition to faxing, it allows you to send and receive e-mail messages with attachments or Web links.

Pros: Fast color and monochrome printing; true PostScript and PCL emulation

Cons: Expensive paper trays and duplexer options; starter toner supply runs out quickly

Verdict: Although expandability can be expensive, the Lexmark C510 is a nearly perfect sub-$1,000 color laser printer for small businesses.

      Lexmark Lexmark W812 Laser Printer

      By Dan Littman

Review summary: WHAT'S HOT: Lexmark's W812 offers a great combination of performance and features. Chief among those features is support for printing on tabloid-size (11-by-17-inch) paper. The printer costs $2089 with an ethernet interface and produces clean, light ...

Verdict: If you want to use the duplex and booklet features that the driver supports, you'll need to add a mechanical duplexer, available separately from Lexmark for $499. This seems a likely choice, as one of the best uses for a tabloid-size printer is ...
