      Lexmark X4550

      By Felisa Yang

Review summary: The Lexmark X4550 offers what most all-in-ones in this price range don't: Wireless networking. Casual home users who value network-readiness will love that feature, but users who want better print quality will be happier with a different machine.

Pros: Built-in wireless networking ; good colour scans ; onboard memory card slots and PictBridge port ; speedy text prints

Cons: Print quality needs improvement ; very slow 4R photo prints

Verdict: The X4550's text print quality left a lot to be desired on our tests. Black text tended toward dark grey rather than true black. Additionally, we saw a lot of jagged edges and wicking, even though we printed on Lexmark's premium paper. The color ...

      Lexmark X3550

      By M. David Stone

Review summary: The Lexmark X3550 offers a lot for its price, including an inexpensive Wi-Fi option to sweeten the deal.

Pros: Wi-Fi option available. Reasonably fast for the price. Prints, scans, and faxes using a PC fax modem. Scans to a PC e-mail program.

Cons: Subpar text quality, even for an ink jet. No automatic document feeder. No built-in fax modem.

Verdict: The Lexmark X3550 is a little shaky on text quality, but otherwise it offers reasonable speed and output quality, plus an inexpensive Wi-Fi option.

Pros: Wi-Fi, Excellent scans, Easy to use

Cons: Slow, Scanning requires wired connection
