      Pros: Sharp-looking video and 1.9-megapixel effective still-image capture with built-in auto flash. USB 2.0 (Hi-Speed) connectivity.

      Cons: No hot shoe or headlight. Busy menu structure and membrane control panel are cumbersome.

      Verdict: At just under $1,000, the JVC GR-DZ7U is a compact, comfortable-to-hold digital camcorder that takes very sharp videos and decent still images (with adjustable flash). But its menus and controls can be difficult to navigate.
