      Sanyo VPC-HD2 Xacti

      By Karl Foster

      Review summary: Capture HD video, and high-resolution stills, with this budget-priced camcorder. We take a close look at this SD video recording option from Sanyo.

      Pros: Supremely easy to use, HD video capture, 7.1-megapixel stills capture, healthy number of scene modes, carry case and USB dock bundled, built-in flash, good audio quality, mic socket

      Cons: MPEG-4 video lacks quality, no accessory shoe, non-integral lens cap, no optical or electronic viewfinder

      Verdict: For the video enthusiast keen to work with high-definition footage, the VPC-HD2 is a great option. The lens is only 10x optical zoom, but go much further and you're looking at having to use a tripod. MPEG-4 capture is highly compressed and there's no ...

      Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD2

      By Jeff Keller

      Review summary: After I reviewed the Canon PowerShot TX1, I received several requests to review the Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD2 ($699 list price). Now, I've never used a Sanyo camera before, but I was game for trying the HD2, since it sounded pretty interesting -- at least ...

      Pros: Good photo quality when ISO is kept to minimum ; 10X optical zoom lens ; Flip-out, rotating 2.2" LCD ; Top-notch movie mode: high definition 720p resolution with stereo sound, wind filter, and use of optical zoom ; can take a still photo while ...

      Cons: Expensive ; Poor ergonomics: cramped buttons, lousy four-way controller, and difficult portrait shooting ; Noise reduction smudges details, even at ISO 50 ; images are soft compared to other ultra zooms ; No optical image stabilization ; Overall ...

      Verdict: There aren't many compact "big zoom" cameras out there, so this list is fairly short. The HD2's battery life is better than the TX1's, but it's still below average for the group as a whole. Picking up a spare battery is probably a good idea

      Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD2 Camcorder Review

      By David Kender

      Review summary: The Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD2 is a camera/camcorder combo that has made positive strides since the debut of its predecessor, the VPC-HD1. Unfortunately, however, this piece of high definition eye-candy still carries serious flaws. If you're only looking to ...

      Verdict: Pound for pound, it's impressive that a camcorder this small can output a 720p. However, the flaws add up. For anything beyond the strictest point-and-shoot recording of video for the Web, your money is better spent on an ultra-compact from one of the ...

      Sanyo VPC-HD2

      By WDC Team

      Review summary: Hybrid camera and HD camcorder that aims to multi-task, but does it deliver?

      Pros: Good design, Comprehensive manual, Size, Price ;

      Cons: Image quality for both photo and video ;

      Verdict: The VPC-HD2 improves on Sanyo's preceding models and at an improved price, but its poor image quality still affirms its status as a Jack-of-all-trades and master of none.

  1. Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD2

    Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD2 By Alex Simpson (14/09/2007)
    • Pros: Small, good value, good quality video
    • Cons: can be a little fiddly for smaller fingers due to its size

    Having only used a few video cameras previously i thought it about time i purchase done myself.

    In duty free i came across this video camera and took a punt on it due to it slow price, i.e. below £300.

    The camera starts up very quickly and the video records after only a small delay.

    My only qualm is that the image stabilization could be a little better

    All in all i am absolutely delighted wi... Read Full Review »
