      Sony DCR-PC55

      By Benjamin Russell

Pros: Simple interface, instinctive operation, impressive outdoor performance

Cons: Indoor and low light performance inadequate, slow autofocus, lack of features

Verdict: A great handycam for a day at the beach, or a simple series of home videos, the Sony DCR-PC55 isn't for the serious camera enthusiast.

      Sony DCR-PC55

      By Robert Ellis

Review summary: The Sony DCR-PC55 is seductively compact, housed in a stylish metallic body available in silver, black, red, and white. Unfortunately, the small size is the big news. Aside from scale, this camcorder just doesn't measure up.

Pros: Stylish and compact ; oversized 3.0-inch LCD ; Active Interface Shoe (hot shoe)

Cons: No viewfinder ; optical zoom is only 10x ; no manual controls ; letterboxed (cropped) 16:9 mode ; image stabilization is electronic, not optical ; no night mode ; stills are only 640 by 480 ; dock required for video transfer ; expensive

Verdict: The DCR-PC55 fits comfortably in the palm of your hand, yet controls are easy to operate, even for someone with big mitts. Unlike other camcorders, which are dotted with buttons, you control almost everything via easy-to-navigate menus on the bright, ...

    • Pros: the size and availability in black and sound quality good
    • Cons: shutter has given problems opening

I have read the review on this page and whilst the camera is not the best in the world, when you consider its, I feel Sony has packed a lot of interesting features into this camera. I am more used to the PD150/170 as I work as a videographer. I decided to buy this item purely based on size as my work often takes me into schools. I have found that children and adults who are not used to cameras bei... Read Full Review »

    • Pros: Size is good
    • Cons: Cheap plastic product - would break easy

Used Sony all my life and have always felt that the brand stood for quality and durability. This camcorder does not come under this! I was dissapointed when I got this camcorder - gone was the metal casing which was a quaility built product - instead Sony opted for shiny plastic which gives this itiem a cheap feel (it even looks cheap and tacky. Mine also had a broken eject as well as the battery ... Read Full Review »
