      Pros: Excellent image quality. 60GB internal hard drive. High-resolution, touch-screen LCD. Face detection. Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound.

      Cons: Doesn't include video-editing or Blu-ray-burning software.

      Verdict: Sony's HDR-SR11 camcorder features a 60GB hard drive and delivers dazzling 1080i HD video, along with some cool extra features. But if you don't already own compatible video-editing software, you'll have to add that to its price.

      Review summary: A CHUNKY but slightly cheaper alternative to Sony's top-of-the-range HDR-SR12E camcorder.

      Pros: Suburb high-definition video quality, good low-light performance, 10.2Mp stills mode, tonnes of advanced modes and features

      Cons: A little on the chunky side

      Verdict: The HDR-SR11 is a slightly cheaper alternative to Sony's top-of-the-range HDR-SR12E. With the exception of a smaller hard drive, it offers identical performance to its award-winning sibling.

      Review summary: Although the speed of data transfer is rather disappointing, the Sony produces good overall results

      Cons: Poor mic positioning ; Slow data transfer ; Unclear menu system

      Verdict: This is still a very good camcorder, and the images are high quality. With a better data-transfer speed, we would have recommended it
