      Samsung BD-P1000

      By Andrew Kliem

Pros: Great picture quality, HDMI support

      Cons: Price, Slow menu

Verdict: For the early adopters this is a great product, offering excellent image quality and a variety of connection options. The price tag however, is considerably higher than that the projected cost of competing HD-DVD players.

      Samsung BD-P1000 Blu-ray Disc player

      By Tech Digest

Review summary: Around a decade ago I witnessed my first demo of a DVD player.

Verdict: The worst part though is that there is only a very limited range of Blu-ray titles on sale at the moment. So this player is very much for early adopters who are going to commit to the format no matter what. Unless you have to be first on the block ...

      Samsung BD-P1000 Review - Blu-ray & HD DVD

      By Jeremy Roche

Review summary: Samsung's BD-P1000 is the first Blu-ray player to land in Australia. While it raises the bar for high-definition video with 1080p output, it also carries a lofty price tag.

Pros: Unsurpassed high-definition image quality, Integrated memory card reader for photos, Glossy black and brushed aluminum case, Popup interactive menus during playback

Cons: It's uncertain whether Blu-ray Disc or HD DVD will prevail, Lack of movies available in Australia, Pricey for what is essentially a video player

Verdict: Unless you're a zealous early adopter who's already invested in a high-definition TV, we'd recommend waiting until the format war pans out a little more, or at least until more Blu-ray Disc content is made available.

Samsung BD-P1000: Blu-ray's here at last

      By Richard Arrowsmith

Pros: Immaculate build and design ; memory card convergence ; ease of use ; peerless high-definition performance

Cons: Massive price ; basic functionality ; average standard-definition performance

Verdict: Samsung's BD-P1000 is the first Blu-ray player to arrive in the UK. High-definition image quality scales new heights using the 1080p format, but new technology always comes with an inflated price tag
