      Philips DVDR80

      Pros: Guide Plus EPG ; component-video input ; excellent video processing ; solid recording quality in long-play modes ; slick styling ; relatively painless operation

      Cons: Somewhat expensive ; crowded remote ; Guide Plus may not work with all cable systems

      Verdict: Loaded with features and delivering great video quality, this Philips is a solid all-around DVD recorder.
