      Pioneer DVR-LX70D

      Review summary: This might be the best DVD and hard-drive recorder ever made - but can it really be worth the price of two Blu-ray players?

      Pros: Has the biggest hard-drive in the business. Beautifully built. Exceptionally flexible. Stunning performance

      Review summary: This is one of the most solidly constructed combis we've ever seen and it's gorgeous to boot

      Pros: Impressive picture ; Excellent build quality ; Easy to use ; A wealth of great features

      Cons: Steep price ; Can--'t access EPG when recording ; No Ethernet

      Verdict: That £900 is a huge outlay for a digital recorder, but with a 500GB hard disk, true multiformat recording, superb 1080p upscaling and unmatched ease of use, the price somehow seems justified
