      Sony RDR-HXD560

Review summary: The nitty gritty of this aggressively priced combi is quietly impressive, with a built-in Freeview tuner, a DV input at the front and the ability to record on dual-layered DVDs.

Pros: Easy to set up, Good picture quality, Accepts RGB

      Cons: Small hard disk

Verdict: This is a very capable combi that doesn't excel in any area but does a solid all-round job

      Sony RDR-HXD560

      By Ian Calcutt

Review summary: This stylish machine also has a well thought out remote control and elegant on-screen menu. You can browse the programme guide while recording (unlike the Panasonic) and timer setting is reasonably simple, though a bit more involved if you want to ...

Pros: Great picture quality ; straightforward to use ; ready for Freeview's enhanced Series Recording

Cons: No HDMI out ; relatively small hard drive ; lacks set-top box control ; no anamorphic 16:9 on DVD+R/+RW

    New to Digital Recording

Sony RDR-HXD560 By THOMAS MARSHALL (14/12/2007)
    • Pros: Very good Price
    • Cons: There seems to be a very lot of buttons on th Zapper.

It took me about Two Days to figger it out.
I,m not very Tech Litterate, so the language they write
    in, was very confusing.
But once I,d figgered it out, it was plain sailing.

I still keep the manual handy.

    Top Marks

    Sony RDR-HXD560 By Anonymous (29/11/2006)
    • Pros: Does everything you could ask for.
    • Cons: Some features are perhaps not for the technophobe.

I don't usually bother to write product reviews but I have to say a word or two about this one. I replaced my older Philips DVR-75 (which is still working) for the integrated Freeview and PVR functionality.

The RDR-HXD560 is slimline, quiet and very easy to set up indeed - in fact it set itself up in under two minutes. The EPG is excellent, very reminiscent of Sky Digital. It even DVD+R DL (d... Read Full Review »

    Sony RDR-HXD560

Sony RDR-HXD560 By gary huston (16/11/2006)
    • Pros: Does lots for the price
    • Cons: Only four months old and been back to sony twice!

This looks good, and at first glance appears to be the ultimate for the average home user.
However, once plugged in the trouble starts, I'm mid 40's and computer literate, but I found this machine extremly difficult to set up. The instructions are very disjointed and don't make it plain what to do in different situations eg if you want to connect a vcr as well as a set top box, this in... Read Full Review »
