Great piece of kit

By Phil Lawrence (04/10/2007)
  • Pros: Clear and accurate, fully updatable.
  • Cons: Annoying non-QWERTY keypad for manual input of addresses.

I have owned the 660 for a year now and have enjoyed flawless use in 10 countries from the UK to Latvia. It has not got me lost once yet.

The touchscreen interface is very intuitive and even my technophobic wife can handle it. The bluetooth telephone facility was the reason that I chose this unit and I have not been disappointed - I have used over half a dozen models with the available connection and any problems of pairing are exclusively down to the fault of the telephone software and not Garmin.

Garmin regularly update software and connection to a computer by USB is a piece of cake.

I don't understand the complaints about the unit not being loud enough as it can actually be quite intrusive on 100% volume. I also don't share the complaint about the windscreen mount failing to remain attached - I have used my 660 in my last car, my present car and at least 3 rentals as well without a problem. Maybe a wipe with a cloth on the surface before attachment could be in order?

This unit is just the right size for stuffing in your pocket for pedestrian use.

Just last week I was looking around at other models to see how I might improve my satnav experience but that was a very short exercise as the 660 is still way up there.
