      Pros: Attractive design ; built-in digital TV tuner ; rich and detailed HD image quality

      Cons: Basic connectivity ; no 1080p or PiP ; remote not backlit ; average SD quality

      Verdict: Excellent HD picture quality, but connectivity is basic and image tweaking options are minimal

      Sharp Aquos LC32P70E: no HD, just great pictures

      Pros: Stylish design ; outstanding off-air performance ; advanced picture and sound settings ; class-leading standard-definition performance

      Cons: Not HD Ready ; no dedicated component inputs ; disappointing digital pictures

      Verdict: Sharp's LC32P70E is a standard-definition star that shines with traditional TV and DVD playback performance. If you don't want to pay extra for a high-definition specification you'll never use, this screen should top your list

      Sharp Aquos LC-26P70E

      Pros: Standard-def pictures ; build quality ; price

      Cons: HD lacks detail, PC jack has to double up as component video jack

      Verdict: So much for the 26P70E's controversial raison d'etre. Let's now start getting into the TV itself
