      Apple iPhone 3G

      By Ray Aguilera

Review summary: The first iPhone was still hot off the press when rumors of a 3G model began to circulate. Fueled by the prevalence of 3G networks outside the United States-and the comparative pokiness of AT&T's EDGE network-the speculation has finally come to an end.

Pros: App store offers tons more functionality. Faster 3G network. GPS

Cons: Mediocre battery life. Some apps could have used more testing. Higher data plan rates. No bundled SMS

Verdict: Small glitches can give the iPhone 3G a 1.0 feel, but its broad capabilities make it a winner for anyone who needs to stay connected to more than just a phone line.

      Apple iPhone 3G

Review summary: Apple iPhone 3G is the newest improvement of Apple Inc.'s iPhone. This gadget boasts of fast 3G wireless technology, enterprise features support (i.e., Microsoft Exchange), and GPS mapping. It is a combination of three products in one package: It's an ...

Pros: This is the handset the first iPhone should have been. With its innovate tap-swipe-pinch-and-stretch interface and crisp 3.5-inch touchscreen, it's always been the best phone for user-friendliness. Now it's the best for web browsing and downloading ...

Cons: Apple may have rectified the recessing 3.5mm headphone socket with a standard jack, so you can plug in some decent cans, but they ignored our pleas for a better camera. Why change the rest then stick with the two-megapixel camera, eh Apple

Verdict: Undeniably beautiful, with the best interface on any mobile phone ever in the history of mobiles, the iPhone 3G would be perfect save for a few notable deficiencies.

      iPhone 3G 2.1 Firmware hands-on: Noticeable improvements

      By Charlie White

Review summary: The iPhone 3G 2.1 firmware has now hit the streets, and we've snagged the 237.8MB download. That's a fat bolus of software, even bigger than the monstrous 225MB of the iPhone 2.0 firmware. Here's Apple's list of fixes in the...

Verdict: I downloaded a program from the App Store, and I immediately noticed a tremendous speedup in the time it took to install the app. Wow! Instead of sitting there installing with that blue bar hardly moving for 10 minutes and slowing down everything on ...
