      Review summary: The unlocked Nokia N78's svelte design and assisted GPS separate it from a crowded field of smartphone competitors.

      Pros: Lightweight. Clear voice quality. Supports Wi-Fi, HSDPA, and GPS. Full-featured (and great-sounding) music player.

      Cons: Cramped numeric keypad. Camera performance lags behind Nokia's N82 and N95. Some built-in apps could use an overhaul. Quiet speakerphone.

      Verdict: The Symbian-based Nokia N78 is a solid unlocked alternative to the popular RIM BlackBerry Pearl, but it lags behind other Nokia smartphones in value.
