Review summary: As the iPod continues to be enhanced, and storage capacity increased, we had a look at the latest from Apple.

Verdict: Supporting both FireWire and USB2.0 connections, file transfers to the iPod are damn fast, compared to the long wait times when bulk uploading to USB1.1 devices

Apple 4G iPod: New iPod Users’ Review: Apple 4G iPod: New iPod Users’ Review

      By iLounge

Review summary: Little more than a year ago, the iPod ceased to be a mere consumer electronics product: it became an icon, symbolizing both the design expertise of Apple Computer and the new way that people have come to understand music. Apple's third-generation iPod ...

Pros: Best value 20 and 40GB iPods released to date, with Apple's best control scheme and extended (12 hour or more) battery life

Cons: Click Wheel works a bit better than it looks, new features besides battery and Click Wheel are largely trivial, still no user-replaceable battery

Verdict: I'm glad you mentioned that they can now be fully charged by the USB cable! It makes me want to upgrade, even though I'm sure I'll stick with my 3g 40GB. That'll be a nice development for Windows users

Pros: Best value iPods released to date, with Apple's best control scheme and extended (12 hour or more) battery life

Cons: Click Wheel works a bit better than it looks, new features besides battery and Click Wheel are largely trivial, still no user-replaceable battery

Verdict: I think if you own a 3G iPod, holding off for maybe the 5G or if they fix the 4G is a good idea. The changes in the 4G iPod are so small that it doesn't warrent an upgrade. I agree the longer battery life is a good thing, it's just not worth it to ...

      Apple iPod Photo (40GB)

Pros: Intuitive photo viewing ; displays album art ; adds color to your iPod experience ; mammoth 40GB hard drive ; includes dock (with S-Video out), FireWire cable, A/V cable, and carrying case not included with newer 30GB and 60GB versions ; latest ...

Cons: Package doesn't include iPhoto 4.0 ; battery life is poor when used primarily for viewing photos ; slightly heavier and thicker than fourth-generation iPod

Verdict: Although it's no longer available through Apple, the 40GB iPod Photo is a good value, considering its lower street price and inclusion of some key accessories.
