      Apple iPod Shuffle (third generation)

      By Daniel Dumas

Review summary: Apple's newest Shuffle (at almost 50 per cent smaller than the previous Shuffles) could easily be mistaken for a stick of chewing gum, features no buttons and pimps voice-identification technology. Even given its apparent consumable stature, though, ...

Pros: Thumb drive size. Can double as a tie clip. Battery life lasts for 12 hours. Short USB sync cord. Yes, we'll admit, it's another beautifully designed piece of hardware from Apple. Battery bonked out after 11 constant hours of blasting Thunderstruck on ...

Cons: You have to use the proprietary headphones. Control set awkward to use, hard to get used to. So small, it nearly gets lost in the packaging it comes in

      Apple iPod shuffle: iPod Shuffle

      By Ginny Mies

Review summary: Apple's third-generation iPod Shuffle ($80) will please minimalist-design enthusiasts: Smaller than a USB thumb drive, it is completely devoid of buttons, knobs, and a screen. While it is attractive, the Shuffle's earbud controls and VoiceOver feature ...

Pros: Sophisticated, minimalist design VoiceOver is innovative alternative

Cons: Earbud controls can be difficult to use Too expensive for the features you get

Verdict: The diminutive Shuffle packs a generous 4GB of storage. While added storage is always appreciated, I would have liked to see some 2GB Shuffles available at a lower price. For one thing, 4GB might be too much for people expecting to use their Shuffles ...

Pros: Apple's smallest, lightest iPod yet, and first iPod shuffle with remote control functionality. Offers modestly better transfer speeds and audio quality than prior shuffle, replaces prior dock with simpler USB sync and charge cable. Adds VoiceOver ...

Cons: Needlessly and seriously complicates controls by switching to a buttonless body, which cannot be controlled without Apple headphones or not-yet-manufactured third-party proprietary remote control solutions ; presently next to useless with car or home ...

Verdict: Taking no joy in rendering such a harsh verdict, we comprehensively discuss the new iPod shuffle in full throughout the pages that follow. Inside, you will see the results of our battery, audio, accessory and transfer tests-some positive, some ...

Review summary: Apple's newest Shuffle (at almost 50 percent smaller than the previous Shuffles) could easily be mistaken for a stick of Trident, features no buttons and it pimps voice-identification technology. But even given its apparent readily consumable stature, ...

Pros: Thumb drive size. Can double as a tie clip. Battery life lasts for 12 freaking hours. Short USB sync cord is the sexiness. Yes, we'll admit, it's another beautifully designed piece of hardware from Apple. Battery bonked out after 11 constant hours of ...
