      Review summary: Creative's superslim Zen has an attractive 2.5in colour display, an FM tuner, a built-in microphone, robust video- and photo-viewing capabilities and the ability to import contact management information. And the Creative Zen 8GB even plays music.

      Verdict: The Creative Zen 8GB lacks the Wi-Fi capabilities of the iPod touch, but has plenty else going for it and is a great choice for gadgeteers and audiophiles alike. A worthy award-winner.

      Review summary: FORGET about the iPod Nano, the best small media player on the market is Creative's Zen.

      Pros: 2.5" screen, has FM and microphone functions, SD slot, silky video playback ;

      Cons: Our mp4 files couldn't be transcoded for use on the player, ships with a short USB cable, a little heavy on the bass frequencies ;

      Verdict: For videos, music, photos and more, you can't beat the Zen. It's one of the most versatile players on the market, it's well built and it'll give you many hours of enjoyment.

      Pros: Feature-heavy, SD Card slot for instant memory upgrades

      Cons: One-handed operation a little tricky, Skimps on bundled accessories

      Verdict: , but it's a great choice for gadgeteers and audiophiles alike. If the 16GB's $150 price tag is too rich for your blood, buy a lower-end Zen and make up the difference with SD Cards
