      Pacemaker review

      By Martin Delaney

Review summary: This unique device incorporates a 120GB hard drive with virtual mixing decks to enable home clubbers to mix their digital music. Wildly innovative, we couldn't resist testing out Tonium's Pacemaker.

Pros: Unique, highly portable, Mac and PC friendly, charges from USB or mains, burgeoning online community

Cons: Expensive, flaky editor, not particularly creative, not expandable like computer-based DJ setups, no iTunes integration

Verdict: A PSP-sized console that lets you ditch the decks, the Pacemaker promises to revolutionise the clubbing experience. DJ's could take it onto the dancefloor and dance along with their crowd, while massive kit bags will be banished to clubbing history.

Cons: Size ; Users may feel overwhelmed at first ; Caters more to DJs ; Price

Review summary: There are plenty of products around targeted at MP3 mixing, but none are as compact as Tonium's quirky-looking Pacemaker. And while it won't compete with products such as Numark's iDJ2 iPod mixing system, it does offer a surprisingly powerful feature ...

      Tonium Pacemaker review

Pros: The Tonium Pacemaker is a DJ-oriented portable audio player with professional-grade audio quality, switchable headphone impedance, Mac and PC compatibility, and an inventive mix recording feature.

Cons: The Pacemaker's price may be too high for armchair DJs and its features and form too restrictive for club use. Like most DJ equipment, the Pacemaker takes some practice to master.
