      Sony NW-A805 (2GB)

      By Jasmine France

Review summary: The most beautiful MP3 player we've seen since the nano, with incredible video playback and superb battery life. Sadly, though, the SonicStage software still drags down usability.

Pros: Great sound from bundled headphones ; superb, lightweight design ; high-quality video ; useful equalizer functions ; long battery life

Cons: Lack of FM radio ; high price ; unfriendly SonicStage software

Verdict: Luckily, Sony has learned its lesson about emphasizing form over function and the NW-A808 is as easy to use as it is pleasant to look at. Of course, getting rid of SonicStage was a major help, as you can now use all the new Walkmans with WMA jukeboxes ...

Review summary: The Sony NW-A808 offers a fantastic display, a sleek design and interface, and a stellar battery life--plus, it's one of the few MP3 players that sound great right out of the box. Users looking for the whole package (sans radio) will be pleased.

Pros: Slim design with a lovely, ample screen; easy to use; comes with high-quality earphones; excellent audio quality; plenty of sound enhancement options and two custom EQs; supports photo, video playback and subscription WMA files; fantastic battery life

Cons: Earphone cable is very short; placement of the hold button on the back of the player is neither convenient nor ergonomic; no FM tuner, voice recorder or memory expansion slot

Verdict: Luckily, Sony has learned its lesson about emphasizing form over function and the NW-A808 is as easy to use as it is pleasant to look at. Of course, getting rid of SonicStage was a major help, as you can now use all the new Walkmans with WMA jukeboxes ...

      Sony Walkman NW-A805

      By Ross Burridge

Review summary: Great in day-to-day use, but poor software and high price dent its appeal.

Verdict: As with previous Walkman incarnations, though, it's hitched to some dubious accompanying PC software. The Walkman Launcher cobbles together the idiosyncratic SonicStage music application, the slightly baffling Image Convertor 3 and a series of online ...

      Sony Walkman NW-A805

Review summary: Saying that Sony dropped the ball doesn't begin to describe quite how catastrophic the past five years have been for the company's forays into the post-Minidisc, portable music player market

      Pros: Attractive, Easy-to-use menus

      Cons: Expensive, Software not brilliant

Verdict: It's overpriced, but it's also well designed. The best Sony MP3 player for a while
