      Panasonic Viera TX-P42S10

Review summary: The Panasonic Viera TX-P42S10 is a 42-inch Full HD (1080p) plasma television with 30,000:1 native contrast ratio. It has 400Hz sub-field drive, JPEG playback, Freeview tuner and three HDMI ports. It measures just 105mm thick, and weighs 27kg.

Pros: Evolution has turned dinosaurs into chickens and orang-utans into Megan Fox, so why shouldn't it transform Panasonic's ancient hot and heavy plasmas into this modernistic thing of splendour? The P42S10 is now (almost) as slim as an LCD, with low power ...

Cons: To achieve this level of picture perfection, at this price-point, Panasonic has stripped out anything unnecessary. You won't find the slinkiest menus or the most rip-roaring sound on board this Viera, and three HDMI inputs is really the bare minimum ...

Verdict: In the cut-throat eco-system of flatscreen tellies, it's strictly survival of the hottest. Panasonic's plasmas prove their worth by shrinking waistlines and price-tags while offering images that are bright, smooth and arse-slappingly exciting.

      Panasonic TX-P42S10B

      By John Archer

Review summary: Contrary to what you might expect given the 'step up' nature of this group test, it's actually not the NeoPDP system. But it still offers something important above Panasonic's entry-level models in the shape of 400Hz Sub-Field Drive processing. This, ...

Pros: Brilliant black levels, good HD pictures, good value, full HD

Cons: Standard def pictures can look a bit soft, colours not always the most natural, pictures not very bright

      Panasonic Viera TX-P42S10

      By Ian Morris

Review summary: It's not the most feature-packed set in the world and its design is rather conservative, but the 42-inch, 1080p Viera TX-P42S10 is still a terrific plasma TV. It's a brilliant performer with high-definition content and it offers a good Freeview ...

Pros: Excellent picture quality ; good design

Cons: Not the most exciting TV we&apos ; ve seen ; we&apos ; d like to see more than three HDMI sockets

Verdict: If you want high-quality pictures, the Panasonic Viera TX-P42S10 won't disappoint. We really like everything about this TV -- Blu-ray movies look stunning, Freeview is handled well and the configuration options are simple but still cover the important ...
