An excellent MP3 Player turned MP4.

By Anonymous (05/04/2008)
  • Pros: Bigger Screen, Video
  • Cons: The battery life is poor when playing games and going on coverflow.

The 3rd Generation iPod Nano is a great MP3 Player turned MP4 player. You can now even watch video on the much bigger 1.5 inch screen.

A great addition to the iPod Nano is that you can select your music using coverflow. Coverflow allows you to search through your album covers to select your music. I heard that on the iPod Classic Coverflow is quite slow, however on the Nano its very fast(depending how many songs you have). The video quality on the Nano is superb! It's so crisp. Its certainly the best quality i've seen on any of the iPods.

Unfortunately there are quite a few things that stop the Nano from being perfect. The battery life is great when listening to music and is just enough when watching a movie, but when you play games or use Coverflow the battery life falls like a brick. It will only last for about 20-30 minutes(30-40 minutes when on coverflow). If you do buy a Nano I recommend you ajust the screen brightness. Another thing that lets the Nano down is the sound quality. When you use the earphones bundled with the Nano the sound quality isn't very good. I recommend buying some better in-ear earphones. The Nano also isnt very loud so you will have to ajust it.

To conclude this review I think that you should get the Nano if you don't have many songs or videos in your collection. If you have more than 8GB and less than 80GB I certainly recommend you get an iPod Touch.

The iPod Nano 3rd Gen however is not 'great' value for money. You can get a Creative Zen 8GB for just £90! Thats £40 less for the same amount of memory, an added SD slot so you can upgrade memory and a bigger screen. At between £100-£130 depending on where you shop I think the iPod Nano is greatly overpriced.
Dispite the price the iPod Nano is a great MP3/MP4 Player. It's durable, good looking ,(Apart from the shiny metal back which scratches very easily), and you now have the option of watching your favourite TV Shows or Movies.
